  • Updated

Uploading Proof of Income is not required to submit with your initial Job Corps application. You have the option to select 'This does not apply to me/I don't have it right now.'

Review the frequently asked questions below to learn more about the proof of income requirement.

Q: Why does Job Corps ask about my income?

To join Job Corps, you need to show that you meet the income requirement. (This doesn’t mean you need a job or a paycheck.) There are lots of different ways to qualify, and your Admissions Representative will help you figure out what applies to you.

Q: What kind of documents count as proof of income?

Proof of income can be a recent paycheck. It can also include public assistance, benefits, or your family’s income. Even if you have never worked, we may still need something to show your income situation.

You can use any of the following documents:

  • Pay stubs from a job
  • Tax forms (like a W-2 or 1040)
  • A letter from an employer
  • A benefits letter showing you or your family gets SNAP, TANF, SSI, Medicaid, or CHIP
  • A school letter showing you get free or reduced lunch
  • A letter or phone confirmation from a caseworker (for foster care or public benefits)

Q: What if I don’t have any documents?

That’s okay- if your situation makes it hard to get paperwork you can still submit your application. Your Admissions Representative will help you identify what documentation you need based on your circumstances.

In some cases, they may ask you to fill out a Job Corps form called a Statement of Support, which verifies that you do not have income and are being supported financially. When prompted to submit documents in the MyJobCorps Portal, select “I don’t have it right now” to continue.

Upload proof of income will remain on your to-do list, but you will still be able to submit your application.
